Proxy Settings for SFTP Profile

Postby paulphillips on Thu Jan 24, 2013 5:11 am

I run a small consultancy and use Syncovery to synchronise documents and files with my office SFTP site from various remote locations - all good so far. I am now on a client site for 6 months, but am unable to route SSH (SFTP) traffic from thier network - they restrict outbound traffic to web browsing and FTP. I don't want to reduce my office security by downgrading to FTP, so need to use a tunneling method. Syncovery offers 3 proxy methods - Web Tunnelling, Sock 4 and Socks 5. Is there any documentation out there that provides the instructions for setting up these proxy services to tunnel my ssh traffic through a corporate LAN? I presume I need to set up a receiving server in my office, and a client proxy on the client site.

Hello,

as far as I know, a SOCKS Proxy server only needs to be installed in the company. Of course they may not be willing to do it. I don't know about web tunneling, you need to look it up on the Internet.

But FTP over port 21 can be secure too. You just need to install an SSL certificate, which you can generate yourself. Then in Syncovery, you need to confirm the certificate manually and it will be safe from then on.
