Problems with tilda character in file names - WebDav

Postby ukcarl on Wed Mar 31, 2010 9:52 am

Hello,

I am using SuperFlexible to sync user home directories on their local C: drive to a Webdav server. It seems I'm having problems with files that contain a tilda (~) character in the filename. I get the following error in the log file;

.......\5. Information and Applications Architecture\PROJEC~1.PPT (HTTP/1.1 404 NOT FOUND at 00A7E8E4.Checkpoints: FCC.UpdT X/DCopy05t)
........4. Future Business Model\USINGD~1.PPT (HTTP/1.1 404 NOT FOUND at 00A7E8E4.Checkpoints: FCC.UpdT X/DCopy05t)

Should Webdav be OK with tilda characters? Is there a problem with the config on my WedDav server?

Thanks

I've done some more testing and have more specific data on this problem.

IF I have two files in a folder where one is the MSDOS short file name version, including tilda, then the short file named version will not sync to the WebDav server.

e.g.

LEFT HAND SIDE - (local folder on c:)

in root foler
TESTFILE.txt
TESTFI~1.txt

RIGHT HAND SIDE - (WebDAV folder)

in root folder
TESTFILE.txt

when I try and run a two way sync the TESTFI~1.txt sync will fail.

Geenrally this situation won't happen, but I do have a user that has this setup in some of his direcotries. Apart from delete all the short fle named files is there another way around this?

Replace characters option? It's under the Internet button on the webdav server, then Advanced-> Replace Characters.

The WebDav server mightn't support filesnames with a tilde, so you could replace them with a dash or hyphen maybe.

Yes it could be a bug in the WebDAV server. You can try the option "Use DisplayNames from WebDAV" on the second tab sheet of the Internet dialog. You need v4.91 for this option. However it is unlikely that it will help.

I can tell you more if we look at the Internet Protocol Log files named FTPLOG*.TXT. You can activate Internet Protocol logging on the Program Settings dialog, on the Logs tab sheet where you turn on the normal logs too. Then the log files will be in the TEMP folder which you get to by entering %TEMP% in the address bar of Windows Explorer. Run the job once to produce the error, then close the program and you will see the logs.

The log files might contain your password, so it is important to do a text search in them and remove any occurrences of passwords.

Please send them to info@superflexible.com rather than posting them here because they are very detailed.
