Stalling at "Preparation, Step 1 of 3

Postby laemmle on Tue Feb 26, 2013 1:59 pm

Hello,

Over the last few weeks, some of my profiles keep stalling at "Preparation, Step 1 of 3" when trying to run an hourly sync with Google Drive (Apps users)

The only fix is to restart the machine that runs the profiles and it will run the profiles successfully for about 2 hours. But eventually, over time, many of the profiles will end up in the "Preparation, Step 1 of 3" loop.

I have upgraded to the latest version of Syncovery with no results.

Hello,

if you have a lot of files, getting the listing from Google can sometimes be difficult because their servers are sometimes overloaded and because the API is unnecessarily complex. It could be that some error messages from the Google servers are not handled in the best possible way.

Did you try canceling such jobs with the STOP button, or with the little Cancel link shown on the Scheduler tab sheet? Please try it. Ideally I would like to see a log file from a job that was canceled gracefully, rather than restarting the machine.

Cheers,
Tobias

Yes, there is a lot of files in these accounts and yes I have tried to stop the profiles gracefully in numerous ways. I tried to hit "stop", I tried to disable each profile, I've hit "cancel" on the scheduler tab, I've hit "stop scheduler", I've hit "stop service" and I've tried to uninstall and reinstall the service and nothing stops the loop except a restart of the machine.

By the way, I can run the stuck profiles in attended and unattended mode without any issues.

These profiles copy data from google drive and download them to a networked folder. Perhaps I should try and install Syncovery on the local machine to remove the network copy functionality? Would that help?

In this case, it is unlikely that the local network part is the problem, but of course you can try it. Can you send me a log file from a problematic run, maybe I can see something.

To look more into the Google Docs part of it, you can turn on Internet Protocol Logging on the Program Settings dialog. This will create additional log files in the TEMP folder which I can analyze and probably find the cause.

Just wanted to update this thread to say that this issue seems to be resolved. The computer syncovery is running on is very low on hard drive space, so low that I cannot run any programs. I assume syncovery needs some local space when running profiles. Once I moved synocovery to a new computer with plenty of hard drive space, I am no longer stalling at "Preparation, Step 1 or 3"

Thanks!
