Email - Doesn't Sync Special Characters

Postby lee-destiny on Mon Jun 26, 2017 5:15 am

I am trying to download emails to our Windows Server via Syncovery. This as all working fine until there was a "special character" in the Subject line that Windows won't allow as a file name. In this instance it was the question mark "?".

Is there a way you can 'substitute' these special characters so that Windows will then accept the new file creation?

Unfortunately, I am not able to do any zipping (and re-naming) as I need the raw files for some other systems that link to this.

Hello,
yes, you can use the "Replace characters" feature from the Internet protocol settings dialog.

I recommend replacing ? on the server side with ¿ locally, unless you also use ¿ in some file names. The replacement character must be unique, i.e. it must not be used in any file names, and it must be reserved for Syncovery's replacement use.

Thanks for your reply. I appears this is a global change (affecting all profiles) is there a way to set different characters for different profiles? The reason I ask is because we have about 30 profiles that are working fine, but this new profile isn't working. I don't want to change something globally for this one profile and potentially mess up the other 30.

Thanks.

Hello,
the list of replacements is global, but the other profiles do not have the checkmark "Replace characters". So the other profiles will not replace anything.
Cheers,

At least you may try to replace this symbol for all other profiles and do it manually.

My colleague had this problem when she was looking for the ability to automate the process in Syncovery, but eventually, to adjust profiles only due to synchronization manually and using the scheduler.

Probably that's why I prefer Outlook email as main one, and hence I use this transfer tool in order to import eml to outlook get more information it takes less time than if I were decided to immerse myself in related tools of working with business correspondence for some years, especially as we speak of dozens of thousands mails and profiles that have been collected for almost 10 years.
