File versioning allows you to keep previous verions of any file you have backed up.  The versions will stay there forever until you have reached the limit that you specified in the backup set.  Once you have hit your limit, the oldest version will be overwritten first.  By default each job is set to keep only two versions.  You may change this any time to include as many or as few versions as are needed for your backup specifications require.
