This takes your data and shrinks it to a smaller size before it leaves your computer.  This has two advantages.  The first is that it is smaller so it takes less time to transfer to our offsite servers.  The second is it will use less space on our servers, therefore you can store more data under your data plan that you chose.  You can always view how much storage you are using by visiting the user area.
